TRANSFORM

This design concept places humans at its core and focuses on the urban-scale relationship between people and spaces, exploring urban memory and the collective consciousness formed by layered spaces in the city. Mapping technique is used to identify the urban texture and produced various abstract representations. This resulted in a superimposed composition of urban surfaces. Key Questions Explored: *Can urban spaces transform into an interface? *Does urban memory persist in the same function and sequence across different scales, or is it interpreted entirely differently? To explore these, urban memory converted to a texture map from a plan view to a sectional perspective. This allowed us to uncover the potential of this interface as a spatial element, revealing its adaptability to transformation and evolution. Next, It is examined how this interface would behave in different spaces and contexts by applying various interventions, such as expanding or hollowing out its interior. As observed in the final collages, we positioned the interface within the center of an ordinary apartment building, creating a void. This led us to question: What would happen if this interface were merely an empty space? Would people integrate into this urban memory, using it as a monumental or museum-like space? Would it in stark contrast to its intended spirit, simply turn into a neglected area filled with trash? Taksim Square (case study), as a fragmented and transformed space, reflects the weakening of urban memory. This study maps spatial elements in areas where urban memory has deteriorated, analyzing them through a layering process. The resulting projection of this mapping reveals an “urban interface” which reflects the transition and transformation of collective memory into new spatial patterns. Public spaces shape shared perceptions through bodily practices performed in specific temporal cycles. Memory is closely tied to lived experiences and space, making architectural interventions a tool to reinforce urban memory. By analyzing fragmented public spaces and transforming them into a cohesive interface, the study reconstructs collective memory through spatial representation. The final outcome is an urban interface that visualizes transformation, reflecting how communities reinterpret and utilize these spaces.
